A country with am amazing array of bio-diversity, Peru is considered as one big habitat for humans, flora and fauna. It is situated in South America and has the South Pacific Ocean on one side and the mighty Andes Mountains on the other. As a result of being close to the sea as well as the mountains, Peru enjoys several micro-climates like no other. Some of the main attractions apart from the famous Inca Trail and Machu Picchu include the pre-Columbian cultures, the cuisine, the natural resources and the exquisite colonial architecture.

Why Volunteer In Peru

Volunteering in Peru is like being the closest you can be to nature and civilization, both of which has supported each other well through millions of years. As a volunteer in Peru, you will not only get an insight into the lives of the Peruvian people but also get to enjoy the many colors of their culture and tradition. It is a unique experience that you will be able to re-live time and time again and the warmth of the people of Peru will not remain just as a moment in time – it will become a timeless treasure.

Types Of Projects Available

As a part of volunteering in Peru, you will get to choose the kind of project you are interested in. The different types if projects available include:

*	Conservation Project: When in Peru, you will be able to spend a lot of time trekking through the beautiful and captivating landscape as a volunteer in a conservation project. Peru has a wealth of natural resources and the variety of flora and fauna is probably more than anywhere else in the world and hence there is a huge responsibility of preserving the natural habitats. As a volunteer in Peru, you will play a definitive role in conservation of Amazon rainforests as well as the higher and lower regions of the Andes, the varied wildlife, and the historical sites. This is one of the most interesting volunteer programs.

*	Internship: There are different types of programs available under volunteering in Peru. You can volunteer for a program for 2 weeks or work as an intern for 1 year. Under the internship program, you will be working with the local people and get to understand and experience their culture from up-close. You will get to understand their problems and find meaningful solutions that can be applied practically.

*	Volunteer with Orphanages: There are several orphanages in Peru and as a volunteer in Peru, you can choose to work with any one of them. You will have to care of the children whose age can vary from 1year to 10 years or more. You will have to teach them languages, take care of their educational and health requirements, teach them sports and get involved in extra-curricular activities.

*	Health Care: Most of the health care volunteer programs in Peru deal with curing preventable diseases. The medical or health infrastructure in the rural areas is understaffed and not well equipped. As a medical volunteer in Peru, you will be able to make contribution towards strengthening the Peru’s medical infrastructure in the rural areas. Health care can vary from technical areas like nursing and surgery to taking care of mentally ill or HIV patients.

*	Sustainable Development Projects: These are specialized projects where some areas might require you to have prior experience and knowledge while in other areas, you don’t require any prior experience. Most of the sustainable development projects deal with four important sectors and they are Environment, Education, Health Care, and Business.

Volunteer Requirements

Age: The minimum age for volunteering in Peru should be 18 or older.

Some of the volunteer programs will require a 2-4 week training program before you start working on the project. The training will be provided by the volunteer organization.

Fee and Other details

There is a fee attached to each of the projects that you volunteer for. The fee is charged in advance and is charged for the following:

1.	Accommodation: There are different types of accommodation available in Peru. This includes Host family normal, Host family plus, Host family matrimonial and apartments. Of course the type of accommodation varies from organization to organization.
2.	Food/meals
3.	Travel insurance
4.	Transportation within the region
5.	Emergency support

Conclusion

Volunteering in Peru has its own benefits as it will open your world to some of the most beautiful aspects of nature that you have probably seen before only in the National Geographic magazines. Projects can vary from 7 days to 4 weeks and depending on the type of volunteering work you are interested in, you can submit your resume with the respective organization and begin the journey.

Overview

Overview

This tour of Cusco and Machu Picchu hotels took us through some incredible scenery en route to the hotels we were due to stay in for the duration of our trip. We decided that we would enjoy total luxury and sumptuous living for a couple of days in order to acclimatize ourselves to Cusco’s altitude which, at 11,000 feet above sea level, certainly takes a bit of getting used to. Whilst we opted to stay at La Casona, there are many more extremely good hotels in the Cusco area that are all professional and efficient, treating their guests for altitude sickness with supplies of oxygen.

From La Casona to Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel

I have to say that, during our stay in Cusco, the hotels we came to know, from guests staying in them, catered extremely well for all their guests’ needs and were all extremely comfortable, at all ends of the tariff spectrum. There was time for a stroll around the market at Pisac and time for a quiet afternoon taking photographs of the stunning scenery. The next morning, after booking out of La Casona, we took the train to Aguas Calientas, en route for our visit to Machu Picchu. Maybe it was my sense of anticipation that made me shiver, but I decided to shun the blankets provided on the train and put on a jumper that I had brought with me. We got off the train at Aguas Calientas and made our way to the hotel that we had booked.

Fulfilled All our Expectations

Despite the fact that this hotel was not too far from the railway station, in terms of setting, it could be a million miles away, filled as it was with delightfully manicured gardens and trickling streams. As far as hotels go in the Cusco and Machu Picchu area, this hotel could certainly hold its head up as being amongst the best! When you consider that we had never seen either of these hotels before and, even though we had done our homework before booking, it was still a risk. I can honestly say, though, that in the case of both the hotels we stayed at, La Casona and Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, we had struck lucky both times. Both these Cusco and Machu Picchu hotels were exactly what we had hoped for when we booked them. We were certainly not disappointed and can quite easily recommend both Cusco and Machu Picchu hotels to anybody visiting this area in the future.

Overview

Overview

Hotels in Cusco are well used to newly-arrived guests needing a quick dose of oxygen, with Cusco situated at around 11,000 feet above sea level. Usually 10 minutes is sufficient to restore you to ebullient health although I wouldn’t recommend attempting to climb Huana Picchu! We had arranged to be collected from the airport but, since our plane was rather late arriving, we didn’t hold out a lot of hope that they would still be there by the time we had come out of Arrivals. However, they were there, patiently waiting for us with the hotel’s shuttle bus. This set the tone for our holiday, to be quite honest.

Dignified Peace

We were booked into three hotels in the Cusco area, the first one in the town of Cusco itself to give us time to get acclimatized to the altitude, the second at Aguas Calientas for our much-awaited experience of Mucho Picchu, whilst our third hotel was again in Cusco to give us a chance to visit some of the other sites we wanted to see in the archeological dream of a town. That first morning, jet-lagged though we were from our long flight from Europe and second flight to get to Cusco, but we did full justice to the very tasty buffet breakfast. Although this hotel was right in the centre of Cusco, it maintained a dignified quiet about the whole premises.

Ceremonial City of the Incas

Our trip to Machu Picchu was everything we had expected and more. How can you possibly describe something as breathtakingly lovely and ethereal as this incredibly ancient site hovering on the edge of the world, wreathed in low-flying clouds so that the granite peaks hovered into view every now and then as the clouds cleared? We travelled around the area of Cusco where the Amazon vegetation meets the Andes and, knowing that our hotels in Cusco would be available to offer us peace and relaxation at the end of each day enabled us to make the most of every day of our visit.

Ollantaytambo and Pisac

Overall, we visited Ollantaytambo at the end of our holiday and stayed overnight there before making our way back to Cusco and then, the next, day finished our holiday with a visit to the market at Pisac. I have to say, however, that if it wasn’t for the standard of care and assiduous attention from the staff at each of the hotels we stayed in, I don’t think our holiday would have been anywhere near as enjoyable as it was.

Overview

Machu Picchu may be considered one of the updated Wonders of the World but, while you are in Peru why not experience what the rest of what Peru has to offer? Machu Picchu has been in ruins for hundreds of years so it will still be there whenever you get another chance to visit Peru: take this golden opportunity to get to know the rest of this amazingly diverse country with its desert and jungle, high plains and mountains, rainy season and blistering sunshine.

Machu Picchu Hotels

However, if you do choose the Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, close to the Machu Picchu Pueblo Railway Station or La Casona Hotel, the painstakingly renovated Colonial manor house at Inkaterra; the Rainforest Lodge, or the Reserva Amazonica – you will be in for a treat. These are some of the best Peru hotels and truly a joy for guests to enjoy. For visiting the nearby archaeological site, one of the better choices of Peru hotels is the Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel which is located close to the Machu Picchu Pueblo Railway Station.

This is a more convenient location than the Lodge next to the ruins which is easy enough to reach with busses that whizz you up to Machu Picchu in no more than 15 minutes. The rooms here are comfortable and are set in extensive gardens, all beautifully chic with nice shower facilities en suite. The staff members are all very friendly and helpful, there is good food served in the restaurant and, for an after dinner stroll, there are excellent nature trails laid out within grounds

Reserva Amazonica Lodge

Within the sounds of the Madre de Dios River and amidst the symphony or, at times, cacophony of tropical birdsong you will be able to relax at this beautiful hotel, one of the Peru hotels that are particularly keen on maintaining the environment and providing an unsurpassed home for such biodiversity that you will find yourself living amongst during your stay. Even the restaurant pavilion where you will be served the most divine gastronomic cuisine is a work of art in its own right, modelled around the trunk of a strangler fig tree.

You may only be staying at Inkaterra, but in terms of civilisation, you could be a million miles away! This unique of all Peru hotels provides exceptional customer-focused attention, despite there being no air conditioning. If you come to Reserva Amazonica Lodge you can expect to become involved in watching the 6am bird call, hikes alongside the Madre de Dios River and even the odd night hiking – as well as so much more!

Overview

Overview

Peru is a country of extremes and contradictions: for a country that offers so much diversity you need to choose a travel company that fully understands and appreciates the vast differences this delightful country has to offer, as well as experience some of the uniquely different Peru hotels along the way.

The Peruvian Amazon

This is a huge expanse that covers more square kilometers that France, Germany and Spain put together. Here you can still experience remnants of the rubber trade, as well as enjoy the sights of the Port of Belen which is known for its floating houses. For the total Amazon experience there are plenty of Peru hotels to choose from, including the Amazon Lodge where you can take night canoeing and piranha fishing trips on its 300 acre site, as well as well supervised trips into the jungle.

Another city within the Peruvian Amazon, but many kilometers further south, is the city of Pucallpa. There are plenty of Peru hotels to choose from here, so there is certainly no shortage of places to stay. The reason for staying here has to be the Cueva de las Lechuzas, otherwise known as the Owls’ Cave. As its name suggests, this cave is the home of many owls as well as the most exquisite stalactites and stalagmites that make this area well worth a visit.

The South of Peru

Further south than Machu Picchu, in the Atacama Desert and close to the Pacific Ocean, is situated, you will find the town of Tacna, situated just 35 kilometers from the Chilean border. Take a stroll along the Plaza de Armas and enjoy the promenade lined with palm trees. Tacna is renowned for its extensive artifact markets, taking full advantage of its duty-free status. The Tacna Grand Hotel is located within the centre of Tacna where you can book a full suite for just $100, although amenities are limited.

Peru has so much to Offer

Flights run daily from Lima to many other localities in Peru which are all well worth visiting if you have the time. You might consider the far north of Peru, close to the Ecuador border, in the location of the Tumbes River with its shrimp farms and sugar white sandy beaches, or the other towns along the north Peru coast. Here, at Huaca Rajada the tomb of Seor de Sipn, a ruler from 400 AD, was discovered. Little is still known about him, but the priceless artifacts buried with him can be exclaimed over at Lambayeque, housed in the Brning Museum. There are plenty of local Peru hotels to stay in around Lambayeque, or towns close by.

Peru is the fastest growing touristic destination among all South American countries and touristic infrastructure follows all needs of modern tourists and travelers. With amazing variety of landscape, cultural heritage, historical sites, natural resources, and endless tradition to explore, Peru has focused on cultural tourism, adventure and archeology related tourism, and eco-tourism.

Opening the country to people from all over the world, Peru took particular care of meeting different needs and budgets of visitors to be. Not that long ago, country that lived and depended upon its fishing and agriculture, it’s becoming one of destinations with the biggest variety of accommodation for tourists. Traditional luxury hotels can be found in Lima, Cusco, Huaraz, and similar places, but definition of luxury changed around the globe and Peru is not an exception -quite opposite.

The most luxurious hotels, with personal services and all imaginable amenities can be found from Lima to Cusco, from MachuPicchu to Puno, known for the Lake Titicaca, and along the coast. Coastal resorts are anyway extremely popular in South America and Peru is no exception. There is no need to mention that all those fancy hotels offer spacious and fully equipped rooms, unforgettable view on one of Peruvian magnificent scenery form your own room balcony or hotel’s garden, business centers, extreme privacy and customized personal services.

There are plenty of home-alike hotels, for modest budgets, but there is not too much missing except for maybe that extra luxury touch. The atmosphere in these hotels is more open and rather typical for the Peruvian mentality. More and more hostels can be found across the country since Peru is very popular destination among younger tourists. With rural tourism gaining more popularity there are more hotels and hostels away from most known spots – those hotels are far from urban look, they rather fit the environment and offer all what traditional Peruvian hospitality mean.

The best way to find something for your budget and your needs is to check online. There are many information about hotels in particular locations, but you can also find abundant collection of testimonials by people who already visited Peru.
