The sphere of Martial Arts is one of the most important gifts of Asia to the world. Who will not remember Bruce Lee and the fact that he was first and principally a martial arts competitor before being a film star? Martial arts pictures are a huge hit with the ever-increasing popularity of Asian cinema like ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ and more recently ‘The House of the Flying Daggers’.

The Chinese are the first nation that come to mind when it you think of these things, but the Japanese are equally as sporty with a rich heritage of body contact sports in their past. Modern Japan still gives honor to the martial arts by holding tournaments and promoting their sports abroad,

Aikido is one of these. It is interesting to note the fact that the word comes from three Japanese characters from which one derives the meaning of the one word. Ai means ‘joining’, Ki means ’spirit’ and Do means ‘way’. From this we can understand why Aikido lies beyond merely the physical skills of it students, particularly since its first proponent, Ueshiba, focused on the spiritual and philosophical development of his students.

In Aikido, one is not trained in violence as a substitute, one is trained to be in harmony with the adversary so that you are able to defeat him more easily. This might appear strange but it really works. In approaching an opponent, the aim of the Aikido practitioner is to be one with the opponent so as to be able to tackle him where he is weakest and in so doing, deflect or put him out of action, but never to kill him.

This is where Aikido becomes an art form. Art is something delightful to look at and something positive and Aikido is all that. At least one of the people involved in the combat is searching for concord and concord can only be achieved if there is elegance in the movements. The moves may be premeditated, but there is an air of elegance in carrying out these movements. Not a feminine grace, but a grace that emanates peace. The ‘art of peace’ is what they call it in Aikido and it is one of the most positive influences of Aikido on its students and to everyone else who decides to find out about this Japanese martial art.

Some of the techniques in Aikido include the following.

Ikkyo is the first technique. Using this technique, you manipulate an adversary by using one hand to hold his elbow and one to hold near the wrist. This action is supposed to allow you to pin your opponent down to the ground.

Nikyo, the second technique, is when you perform a wrist lock which enables you to twist the arm of your opponent which will in turn cause nerve pressure.

Sankyo, the third technique, is a technique that creates upward-spiraling tension throughout the arm, elbow and shoulder. There are many other techniques but the first three are enough to give you a basic idea.

In studying Aikido, it is vital to remember that, together with building physical strength, you will need to improve your mind to be able to overpower your opponent. Just like in any art form, it takes a lot of training and discipline to reach the summit of the art of Aikido. The important thing to remember is, that anyone who wants to get into the art, must have the resolve to give honor to the art by performing it in the best way possible.

It is spoken by some people in Taiwan, Korea, Philippines parts of Chinese mainland and some Pacific Islands which the Japanese occupied during World War II and later. Japanese is also spoken by the Japanese emigrant communities of Hawaii, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, the United States and Australia. There is a decline in the fluency with which the language is spoken by their descendants. The official language of Japan as well as the island nation of Palau is Japanese. The vocabulary in Japanese language is borrowed from a number of languages. The most prominent language from which words are borrowed is the Chinese language. This resulted from the interaction that has a history of over 1,500 years. Words have been borrowed also from the Indo-European languages, mostly English during the 19h century, Portuguese in the 16th century and some Dutch in the 17th century.

About 130 million people speak Japanese. The language is part of the Japonic-Ryukyuan languages. Japanese is spoken almost exclusively in Japan though it is also sometimes spoken in Korea, Taiwan, parts of Chinese mainland, Philippines and some Pacific Islands which were occupied by Japan during and prior to World War II. Japanese emigrant communities as in Brazil, Hawaii, Argentina, Peru, Australia, and the United States too speak the language. However, increasingly the descendants rarely speak fluent Japanese. Japanese is the official language of Japan and the island nation of Palau. The Japanese vocabulary consists of words taken from other languages. Predominant amongst them are the Chinese words, a result of 1,500 years of interaction. It has borrowed words from the Indo-European languages, particularly English in the 19h century and some Portuguese and Dutch in the 16th and 17th century respectively. Three different types of scripts are combined to make the Japanese language. They are Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana. The first is the modified Chinese characters while the latter two are two syllabic scripts of the modified Chinese characters.

The standard language taught in schools is Hyōjungo. It is also the official language. But the common form used is the Kyōtsūgo. The traditional written language Bungo is no longer much in use but it is the colloquial language Kōgothat that is commonly used for writing. Different Japanese dialects are spoken in different parts of Japan. The most dominant dialect is the Tokyo-type. Next is the Kyoto-Osaka-type followed by the Kyūshū-type. Often the mainstream Japanese do not understand the dialects of the outer regions such as Tsushima or Tōhoku or southern Kyūshū. The Ryūkyūan languages that are spoken in Amami and Okinawa Islands are considered as dialects of Japanese though they are distinct languages. However, the standard Japanese have become predominant with their use in education and mass media.

Globally, Japan is ranked second to United States in terns of economic power. Japan is considered technological very advanced. The industrial and financial activities of Japan have spread out worldwide. This has resulted in increased interest in learning the Japanese language. Functional Japanese are offered as popular courses. This includes the Japanese vocabulary flashcards.

Japan’s emergence as a globally important economic power has popularized the country, its culture and language. Many Japanese words too have found their way into other languages as English. Some of these words are haiku, judo, karate, karaoke, ninja, rickshaw, samurai, tycoon, sudoku, sayonara, sumo, sushi, tsunami and many others.

The Japanese language is a reflection of a very long history, tradition and progress. Through the various course offerings, you will not only learn the language itself but you’ll also come to understand how they are as Japanese nation. The history, customs and development is greatly manifested in the Japanese language itself. Certainly, you’ll be learning a lot about the Japanese people once you study the different Japanese courses.

There’s nothing quite like the car auctions in Japan. You probably already know that Japan exports a lot of vehicles. Even after years of recession, Japanese cars are still on top throughout the globe.

What people outside of Japan may not realize is that thousands of cars are sold every day at Japanese car auctions everywhere in the country. In one auction house alone, there can be as many as ten thousand cars available on the day of the auction. Every make and model you can think of goes through the auction system every single week.

How are the cars supplied to the auction? By far, most cars belong to average people who just want to make sure they get a good price on their car before they buy a new one. Japanese people have a lot of incentive to get rid of their old car because of a biannual inspection called Shaken. In Japan, as a car gets older it become more expensive to maintain and people have less desire to buy something used.

Are the cars any good? Another aspect of Japanese culture is that people take a lot of pride in keeping their cars clean. The cars are usually in very good condition. On top of that, the mileage on the cars tend to be very low compared to other countries due to the crowded and narrow roads. The auctions are a good way for the Japanese to sell their used cars, and many people overseas in countries such as Australia, UK, and New Zealand often import them and resell the cars at a profit.

How can you trust the cars are in good condition? Every aspect of the car is examined by an independent inspector, so buyers can see every detail about the car before they bid. The inspections are incredibly strict and the inspectors pride themselves on accuracy. Diagrams and charts on the inspection sheet let the buyer know everything about the car in great detail, including even the tiniest scratch or mark.

What is bidding like? Bidding is fast paced and exciting, with most auctions taking place in less than a minute. All the participants have an individual station that lets them bid via a handheld clicker. Actually it’s possible to bid online if you have the clicker attachment. When the auction starts, each bidder clicks the button and the price goes up. The seller can set a reserve price, so if the car does not meet that price, the car does not sell. When no one is clicking the button anymore, the auction is over.

What do you do if you have the highest bid? Well, you have to pay for it! If you are exporting the car, there will be some more work you need to do. When exporting, transportation from the auction house to the ship needs to be arranged. If not, the car is yours when you pay, and you can drive it after the paperwork is done.

It doesn’t matter if your knife cost $500, if you use it every day in the kitchen for cooking and preparing food, it will eventually get dull. Knives are everyday tools especially if using it in the kitchen for cutting and cooking. Once that knife gets dull it’s no better than a dollar store knife.

If you are a millionaire, feel free to have your knives sharpened by a professional. If you would like to save up to $100 a year, you should learn how to sharpen your best knives yourself. Just be careful not to damage them.

Visually, your knife may look sharp, but a simple test can reveal quickly if your knife is really sharp or not. First, take a ripe tomato, and then slice it down. If the tomato gets halved easily, then it is sharp, but if it squishes down, it means the knife is not as sharp as it may seem. It needs sharpening.

The method of sharpening your knife is different depending on the type of metal or material your knife is made of. Knives made of very hard steel often don’t need to be sharpened as often however when they do need sharpening a special tool is needed. This tool is called a steel, and is often used by butchers and chefs. However for home use, a ceramic sharpener usually does the trick.

Using a Ceramic Sharpener

Begin by placing the heel of your knife blade at the tip of the sharpener and then sliding the entire length of the blade down the sharpener. Keep the pressure and angle constant; you should feel the abrasion between the cutting edge and the sharpener.

Plan your stroke so that you will finish with the point of the knife’s blade near the base of the ceramic sharpener. Repeat this move on the other side of the sharpener to sharpen the other side of your knife.

Sharpening Steel

- If you prefer to use or already have a sharpening steel, by all means continue to use it. This time start with the base of the blade at the base of the sharpener, and slide your two hands apart and away from each other while keeping the knife and the sharpener together.

As I’ve shown you, keeping your knives sharp is a simple task. Invest in a good knife sharpener and practice with a dull less expensive knife. You’ll be a professional in no time.

Japanese Kanji symbols are easily recognized due to their artistic look. These ideographical characters are constructed out of carefully selected marks that represent a whole idea or object. It is a highly expressive script that looks to have an strong aesthetic appeal.

Over the years the kanji script came to be a favourite choice for people interested in getting tattoos. The use of the script can also be found in numerous other fashion items like pendants, necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Even interior decoration elements like lamps and wall hangings feature Japanese Kanji symbols today.

You can use Kanji symbols in order to create and express any idea that you would like. The construction of the script is however totally different to that of English and hence one must understand how a certain word would come out in the kanji script.

Many people have tattooed with a kanji symbol based on the way they appear only to find out later that the word illustrated in the script has a rather embarrassing meaning. In this way people have actually been stamped with a rather embarrassing thing for life. This is something that you would want to avoid.

You must be able to understand the Japanese language to comprehend the sense of each Kanji symbol. Otherwise you are going to make the same mistake that some tattoo admirers made, believing the misconceptions of some non-native speakers and tattooing with symbols that made them labelled with the identification marks of ancient age criminals.

The history of kanji symbols is remarkably rich and also the symbolism that it carries. Not all Kanji experts today are tattoo artists. Instead they take to the script as a means of fine art as they play with the script in order to compose a brilliant piece of art.

The real grandeur of the Kanji symbols lies in the unaltered acceptance and appeal they have maintained althrough their history. It is so old that the introduction of Chinese characters into Japanese language occurred before 15 centuries. Until now, this great art has been enticing masses of people around the world.

One more reason is there for the wide acceptance of this art – the depiction of the beauty of life. It holds an unexplainable appeal to the human heart. In other words, Kanji symbols are really a demonstration of the human innovativeness.

It has been remarked that the roots of the kanji symbols that we see today are implanted in human experience. For example the kanji symbol for peace portrays an abstracted line drawing of a woman under a roof representing shelter. Amongst the most famous Kanji symbols is the one which reads “FUKU”. This means fortune and comfortability. “Gaku” is another popular symbol which signifies happiness.

When Beatrix Kiddo says she’ll be back for her kid, she means it. And that goes for anyone who stands on her way. Not even O-Ren Ishii (Cottonmouth), Elle Driver (California Mountain Snake), Gogo Yubari, or the Crazy 88 gang can stop her from seeking her revenge.

It all started when she was shot on the head by Bill, the leader of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad on the day of her wedding rehearsal that left her in a state of coma for 4 years. When she was able to wake up from her coma and went straight to Okinawa to look for Hattori Hanzo, the famous swordsmith. Upon successfully finding him, “The Bride” then asks Hattori Hanzo to build a sword for her. The swordsmith understood her motive and forged a peerless katana for her. Then her vengeance starts from there, getting rid of each one of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad members accountable for her wrecked life.

Isn’t that a happy ending? Well if you will ask me, I could not care less for the rest of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. All I care for is the sword that Hattori Hanzo manufactured for “The Bride”. I know plenty of people who possess a samurai displayed by their coffee table in the living room of their house. It is always been off limits for anyone since it’s for exhibit purposes only. But then when I saw the movie “Kill Bill”, I just had to know how it feels to swing a samurai around, swishing it in the air like how Black Mamba, aka The Bride aka Beatrix Kiddo did in the movie.

I was astonished to see the hand crafted Hattori Hanzo Samurai Katana replica #1 out of 100 on eBay which is worth $3,750. It’s made from higher than average carbon steel that also comes in a box, a sword bag with tie, an exhibit stand and a cleaning kit. It’s virtually a real sword that can piece just about anything. What made this sword so expensive? It’s sword #1. Meaning it is the first of the only 100 sword replications ever developed. It is a limited edition sword made by real swordsmiths in Japan and each one comes with its own Certificate Of Authenticity to assure you that you happen to be buying an authentic reproduction of the Hattori Hanzo Katana as seen in the movie “Kill Bill”. If I were a sword collector, I would certainly buy one, considering the fact that I have that disgustingly massive sum of money to devote on a sword that will only lie on my coffee table forever.

I also saw one that costs only $28.50. It’s probably the lowest in the whole site that is made of steel and is somewhat identical to the Hattori Hanzo sword as seen on the movie. It may be one of countless numbers of similar sword replicas reproduced that made it so cheap. It also says in its advertisement that the sword is built of carbon steel and it is sold with the sword’s wooden scabbard since it is slightly sharpened. Talk about cheap props.

Anyways, both swords appear precisely the same to me. So whichever makes it to my doorstep, I will make sure to take care of it as Black Mamba would.

The Samurai is the name of a warrior class of people that developed many centuries ago in Japan. We find that the Samurai have been glorified via a number of movies, comic books and theatre plays in recent years. The history of the Samurai seems to be equally as attractive for children as well as adults.

History of the Samurai art cannot be described without referring to the history of the Samurai tribe. The governance system that existed in Japan in 12th century was named as Shogunate and the ruler was known as Shogun. At that time, Japan was suffering a lot from frequent struggles between the then existed powerful groups named Taira and Minamoto.

Daimyo who were much the same to the Dukes in Europe were the second powerful authority in the country. Samurai were the fighters of these dukes. There were Ronin among the Samurai people who became masterless as their masters had committed suicide.

The Samurai caste enjoyed many special advantages which was not allowed for the common people. They were licensed to carry two swords while the common people were restricted from carrying any. They were even allowed to decapitate any ordinary citizen who came to hurt them.

There were different ranks within the Samurai class as well. There were three basic classes of Samurai named the housemen who were the administrators, the mounted samurai who were allowed to fight on horse back and the foot soldiers.

Depending upon the class they belonged to, every Samurai was authorized to own a certain proportion of the rice tax in the country. Bushido, that meant the way of warrior, was the code of life they followed. This code was built on the loyalty towards Daimyo, their superior. When the feudal system disappeared, the Samurai people shifted into farming.

A strange custom of committing suicide named Suppuku existed among them. They considered it as a noble way of death and was performed at the battle field or outside the battle as a formal function. Eventually, the era of battles came to an end and the Samurai class dissolved in the mainstream of the Japanese life.

The colourful history of the Samurai plus the glorification they received through the film media and other such publications led them to be known on a global level. For many non-Japanese people the concept of a Samurai was very attractive. The sheer discipline and the code of ethics followed by the Samurai was something unbelievable for the rest of the world.

It was but natural that the Japanese artists of the time were inspired by this warrior class which played a fundamental role in the governance of the country throughout the years. During the changing years many artists drew inspiration from the Samurai and illustrated them through various means of art. Samurai art seems to have a great attraction on the people unfamiliar with the Japanese culture as well.

How would you react to see a man wearing a pair of bra? You’d probably freak out to find out that your football coach wears a pair of black bra during practice or to find out that your best man includes a pair of white bra for his getup on your wedding day. I know it’s kind of odd to know that kind of stuff especially from men whom you never thought would even get caught alive holding a pair of bra and so much more wearing them in public underneath their clothes.

Well in Japan, wearing a bra for men is actually a huge hit right now and every boy in Japan is dying to have them. I really don’t get Japanese fashion. They can be very interesting and at the same time, very outrageous. They seem to love the extremes when it comes to fashion. Maybe when you get to walk the streets of Tokyo, you’ll feel that you’re inside an anime film where everybody’s dressed up exactly like how the anime characters look like. Sometimes I think that it would be too scary to live in Tokyo because you’ll feel like you’re required to dress up like the people around you and if you don’t, you’re just like an outsider who got lost inside their fancy world. So you won’t have any choice but to dress up like them and to look like them just to belong.

But then again, these people are dressed very differently than any other cultures because that is how they want to look like. They are not dressing up that way because they want to look like each other or just to belong. They do it because they want to look that way and they are not requiring anyone around them to look or dress the same way they do. They are free people and very much liberated to do whatever they want.

In some other countries, men wear bra due to health reasons. One of the major reasons why a man would need t wear bra is because they just had a chest surgery due to Gynecomastia and they need to keep their chest from moving much or from being bumped accidentally. Gynecomastia is a state where a man develops large breasts that are often referred to as man boobs due to abnormal tissue growth on their chest. It can also be due to weight gain, obesity, boys going through puberty, tumors and other situations where medical procedures are considered to be the best option.

This type of men’s bra are used mainly for support and not just for display purposes, so you don’t have to make fun of men using bra’s. For all you know, they’ve undergone a medical procedure that’s why they are wearing a chest support and here you are making fun of him.

Anyway, no matter if the male bra is used for plain fashion or for medical purposes, we all have our own free will to do and wear whatever we want as long as we are comfortable with wearing it. I know that fashion sometimes means sacrifice but if we choose our models really well, we won’t have to worry about bringing Tokyo to our own home.
