Certainly, one of the greatest football coaches of all-time. Not only college football but any level of football. A true coach & man that put a stamp on the Alabama football program. He brought the program out of the ditches & into the spotlight. He lead them to the top. He lead his players to the pinnacle. This coach was a winner in all aspects. From his initial hiring to the day he left the program this guy was what any football program was hoping & asking for. From the late 1950’s to the early 1980’s this coach showed how to play the game. And, he did it very well.

From 1993-1976 Ray Perkins showed his coaching abilities. He compiled a 32-15-1 record during his 4 years of coaching at Alabama. Bill Curry followed up with three winning seasons from 1987-1989. His overall record stands at 26-10 for his time spent as Alabama. There could have possibly been more wins if it not had been for disagreements with the Alabama athletics department. This lead to his departure after only 3 seasons.

From 1990-1996 Gene Stallings had about as successful coaching years as any school would want. Garnering 62 wins & only 25 losses. Well, 8 of those wins were docked by the NCAA due violation of NCAA rules by a former player. Not only that, 30 scholarships were taken from 1995-1998. They were also banned from post-season play during the 1995 season.

Since the late 1990’s Alabama has been through a few head coaches. Frank DuBose took over from 1997-2000. There was 3 solid seasons including an SEC championship in 1999. However, with high expectations in 2000 the Tide had a 3-8 record. Following the 2000 season DuBose was replaced by Dennis Franchione. His tenure was short with only 2 years at the helm even though he lead the school to winning seasons both years. Franchione left Alabama for Texas A&M. In 2002, Mike Price was introduced as head coach. His tenure was even shorter when he was removed amidst a scandal after only 1 year. Mike Shula(son of former coaching great Don Shula) too over next in 2003. From 2003-2006 Shula compiled a 26-23 record including a 10-2 season in 2005. In 2006 the team struggled with a 6-6 record. This lead to Shula being fired. In 2007, Alabama hired famed & well known coach Nick Sabin. Since taking over the program Sabin has already won a national championship in 2010 by beating Texas in the BCS Championship Game. Thus far in 3 seasons Sabin has a record of 33-8 with one SEC & national championship. Many more might be to come with this great coach.
